Longreach Starlight Cabins began with a simple idea: to create comfortable, self-contained accommodation where visitors could enjoy the freedom and character of an outback stay while remaining close to the heart of town.
Founder Wendy Macdonald brought together her experience in economic development, business growth, property development and regional tourism.
The Starlight journey began in 2024 with the purchase of one of Longreach’s largest undeveloped sites. What followed was a determined process of planning, approvals, restoration and construction.
The first six cabins opened to guests in May 2026, offering a mix of accommodation for couples, families, workers, longer-stay guests and travellers requiring accessible facilities. This first stage marks the beginning of a longer-term vision for welcoming outback accommodation in Longreach.
Through her work supporting the ongoing development and operation of Longreach Caravan Park, Wendy gained valuable first-hand insight into what regional travellers value most: clean and comfortable accommodation, a convenient location close to amenities, easy check-in and genuine country hospitality.
These lessons helped shape the vision for Longreach Starlight Cabins — welcoming accommodation and unforgettable outback experiences.
